Louis died in the Austin State Hospital, Austin, Travis County, Texas. The cause of his death was a hemorrhage from a peptic ulcer. Although his death certificate stated that he would be buried in Llano City Cemetery, Louis was actually buried in Eckert Cemetery, Eckert, Gillespie County, Texas. Also buried in the cemetery were his father John M. Stovall, Henry and Nancy Moehle (his sister), and John (his brother) and Mary Stovall and his nephew John Louis Stovall.
