Louis's mother probably died some time between his birth in 1886 and 1900. In 1900 Louis and his father are living in the household of his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Henry Moehle in Gillespie County. In 1910 he and his father are living in the household of his brother and sister-in-law John Omer and Mary Bird Stovall in Gillespie County.
By 1918 Louis had left Texas and moved Coverse County, Wyoming. In Wyoming he worked for the Ohio Oil Company. On his World War I Registration Card, he mentioned another sister Clara Louise Stovall Smith (Mrs. Jessie O. Smith) who was a nurse living in Llano, Llano County, Texas. Clara was listed as Louis's next-of-kin.
Some time between 1944 and 1954 Louis married Hattie Ray Wimberley Robbins. Hattie was a widow. Her first husband John Charles Robbins had died suddenly in 1944 when Hattie was 42. She was living in Llano and had four children from her first husband. Louis and Hattie separated before Louis's death in 1955.
Louis died in the Austin State Hospital, Austin, Travis County, Texas. The cause of his death was a hemorrhage from a peptic ulcer. Although his death certificate stated that he would be buried in Llano City Cemetery, Louis was actually buried in Eckert Cemetery, Eckert, Gillespie County, Texas. Also buried in the cemetery were his father John M. Stovall, Henry and Nancy Moehle (his sister), and John (his brother) and Mary Stovall and his nephew John Louis Stovall.
