James Edmond Nelson was born April 16, 1874 and departed from this life the 1st day of December 1940 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 15 days. He was born and spent his life in Dent County, MO. He was the son of John Z. T. and Caroline (Brigman) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Martha Hubbs Dec. 27, 1896. To this union 11 children were born, two children preceded him in death, Mrs. Minnie Jones and an infant child. Surviving are Everett of Montauk, Clarence of Houston, Mrs. Florence James of Rhyse, Bill of Licking, Mrs. Etna Williams of Licking, Mrs. Dollie Tabain of California, Mrs. Goldie Klessig of Licking, Mrs. Sarah Jones of Oscar, Mrs. Sylvia Dawson of Lenox. He leaves four brothers and 6 sisters, William Marion, Ewing, Newton Herman, and Johnny Nelson, Mrs. Hattie York, Mrs. Lovey Burns, Mrs. Ruthie King, Mrs. Lura Floyd, and Mrs. Ann Lee Murray all of Dent and Texas County, MO and 29 grand children. Mr. Nelson was converted and baptized in his early life. He spent most of his spare time reading God's word. Only a few minutes before death called him to his home in heaven he was reading his Bible. During his last days on earth his prayers were to meet his Savior face to face. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Carl Hinton and he was laid to rest in the Mt. Olive Cemetery under direction of Smith & Ferguson.
