Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen's Magazine, Vol. 23, 1897, pgs 444-445:
J. K Gilbraith, Lodge No. 264 has met with a sad, and what seems to us an almost irrecoverable loss in the death of Bro. Amos R. McDuffie, who met with an accident in Butte on the morning of September 23rd (1897), when he received injuries from which he died the following day. He was, at the time of the accident, working on the Montana Union Railroad in the capacity of brakeman. He was in the act of making a coupling, but was caught between the drawbars of the cars. He had worked faithfully for the M.U.R.R., both in the locomotive and transportation departments for the past 12 years. He was Master of the lodge for six years prior to his death, performing the duties of his office with fairness to all, and conducted himself personally in such a cheerful, honest and upright manner that to meet him was to love him.

He was sober, industrious and ever generous to a fault. A life like his is worthy of our emulation. He leaves a loving and devoted wife to mourn his departure. His remains were accompanied to their last resting place at Three Oaks, Michigan, by the bereaved widow and Bro. Frank Zimmerman of our lodge. where they were laid to rest by the side of his mother.

Amos married Cora Greasley on 21 Feb 1893 at Silver Bow Co, Montana (Montana, County Marriages, 1865-1950). Also, I believe he died there. In searching records at familysearch.org, I found a Death Certificate for an Andrew R McDuffy who died 24 Sep 1897 (Amos tombstone has a death date of 23 Sep 1897) from an Accident at Butte, Silver Bow Co, MT (Montana, County Births & Deaths, 1840-2004 - Silver Bow). He is listed as 35 yrs., married with no wife's name, no parents' names, and no informant. No cemetery listed and it states burial in Michigan. I feel certain that this is our Amos! Our family had little information on Amos other than he married Cora Greasley and no known children. He is buried with his parents in La Porte Co, Indiana - and NOT in Three Oaks, Michigan.
