at the west end of Bille road will be known as 'John Bille Park.' The park was named in honor of the former county supervisor and long-time resident of Paradise by the district board when it met Tuesday night....."

Paradise] included Lyda Stearns and Lee and Ann Smith. The Smiths had a ranch on the edge of the canyon at the end of Graham Road. The family had settled there in the 1890's, buying the land from the Van Fossens. Ann became the wife of John Bille. Lee worked in the Las Plumas and De Sabla powerhouses. .....

"In the spring of 1911 John used his horse and wagon to haul serpentine from Magalia for the church on Pearson Road. Louise often went with him to help. When Elsa came home after her graduation from Stanford she frequently accompanied John. John knew how she loved the flowers and would usually suggest that Elsa explore the lovely Little Butte Creek while he loaded the rocks! Like his father, John was a gifted mason and enjoyed helping build the church. Later, when John's own sons, George and Henry, were growing up he passed this skill on to them. ...."

Chico Enterprise-Record, Saturday, January 23, 1965: "Ridge Pioneer John N. Bille Dies at Age 80. Paradise (E-R)-John N. Bille, 80, died early this morning t his home, 6221 Oliver Road. He was born in Homer, Neb., Jan. 3, 1885. Mr.
Bille first came to California in 1904 and to Paradise in 1909. He was the first assessor for the Paradise Irrigation District in 1916. His father, George, for whom Bille Road was named, became its first secretary. In 1919 he was elected to the Butte County Board of Appraisers and served four two-year terms. He also served as Butte County Deputy Assessor in the Paradise - Magalia - Stirling City
area for some 20 years. He served two four-year terms as county supervisor. He and supervisor Frank Patty and Fred Byrlie were instrumental in construction of the Skyway.

"Survivors include his widow, Josephine of Paradise; two sons, George and Henry, both of Paradise; three daughters, Bernice Abshier of Durham, Martha Duncan of Chico, Lois Lloyd of Oroville; ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren; two sisters, Elsa Edwards and Lois Lyons, both of Paradise.

"Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Paradise Chapel of the Pines with the Rev. Ralph Veit of the Craig Congregational Memorial church officiating. Interment will follow in the Paradise Cemetery." Information provided by Ariana
