Douglas Daniel Shaw was the oldest of the 3 sons of Daniel Lyons "Tucker" Shaw and Alice Mary Merriman. He was born in Port Bolivar, Galveston County, Texas. Douglas married Susan Anna Irene Roberts on February 28, 1898, in Galveston. They lived in Galveston and in Alvin, Texas.

There were 8 children: Agnes Beulah, Mary Florence, William Edward, Iva Irene, Mabel M., Charles Lester, Lucy Laura and Blanche Sigrid Shaw.

Douglas seemed to be a good family man, he raised a large family, maintained a home in Alvin, Texas, was active in his church He and Susan had his mother, Alice Merriman Shaw, in his home and took care of her parents in their later years.

Douglas died at 76, in his home. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas. There is no marker, but he is buried next to Susan and with several of his children. The family plot is shaded by a lovely oak tree.
