Civil War Veteran. Co E, 99th Pa Infantry. Mustered in 24 August 1861 at Philadelphia, Pa for three years. Age 28, rank Private. Discharged March 1864 under Surgeon's Certificate of Disability.The son of German-born Johannes & Frederica Hamp/Hompp/Hompt, in 1860 he was a butcher living in Lancaster, Lancaster, County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 6" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-one and mustered into federal service at Philadelphia August 24, 1861, as a private with Co. E, 99th Pennsylvania Infantry, and discharged by surgeon's certificate sometime during May 1864, reason as yet unknown. Further data must await the post-covid-19 re-opening of the National Archives and access to his compiled military service records.

He married Barbara Faust and fathered Benjamin Franklin (b. 02/18/78). Barbara's status is unknown, but he married the much younger Phoebe Fuller and fathered Oscar Christian (b. 09/20/92) and John E. (b. 07/08/94). In 1889, he was living in the Lancaster County Alms House before he remarried. Cause of his death is listed as "chronic Bright's disease" with "arthritis deformans" a contributing factor.

Although his death certificate claims he is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, he lacks burial records there.
