Death Takes Woman, 99; Golf Figure
Mrs. Leota Hendershot Bigelow, one of Ogden's first women golfers, died Thursday evening in St. Benedict's Hospital of natural causes. She was 99.
Mrs. Bigelow was a leader among women in creating interest in golf. She took the women's championship at the Ogden golf course in 1914. She was runner-up state champion later, losing the title three times by only one stroke.

She was born June 1, 1869, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of F. Josephus and Matilda Gates Hendershot. She was married to Archie P. Bigelow. He died Dec. 24, 1942, in Oakland, Calif.
She had resided in Ogden most of her life, and had also lived in Oakland, Calif.
A member of the Martha Society and the Ogden Golf and Country Club, Mrs. Bigelow was honored a year ago at a dinner at the club given by her daughter, Mrs. Marriner A. Browning, with over 60 persons attending.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Marriner A. (Dorothea) Browning, two grand children, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a brother, Frank Hendershot of Altadena, Calif.
Graveside services will be conducted in the Ogden City cemetery Monday at 11 a.m. under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.
