Mrs. Phillip (Cecelia) Cleland, 93, died June 22 in the SE Dakota Nursing Home. Services were at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Agnes Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas Ryan officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. There was a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Iverson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cleland, the former Cecelia Walz, came to the Vermillion area as a child. She married Phillip Cleland Feb. 10, 1909, at Vermillion. They farmed in the Spirit Mound area. He died Oct. 23, 1967. She entered the Southeastern Dakota Nursing Home in 1971.
Mrs. Cleland was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Garland (Phyllis) Denton of Quail Valley, Calif.; four sons, Lester of Van Nuys, Calif., Ervin T. of Vermillion, Phillip W. of Bellflower, Calif., and Lauren of Sioux Falls and 11 grandchildren.
