Harry Edmond Griffin, 85, of 366 New Walters Mill Road, Providence, NC, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at his residence. Born Mar. 7, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Robert F. Griffin and Lucy Williams Griffin. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married Gladys Webb Griffin, who survives. Mr. Griffin worked for Dan River Mills Spinning Room maintenance, and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary R. Griffin; a daughter, Deborah G. Amburn and husband, Rick; a brother, P. Henry Griffin, all of Providence; and a sister, Peggy G. Daniel, of Pelham. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Brandy Velazquez. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Services for Mr. Griffin will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Mausolem at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Lawrence Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and at other times will be located at the residence of his daughter, 392 New Walters Mill Road, Providence, NC. Barker Funeral Home is assisting the Griffin family.
