Erling Julius Finseth, 87, of Underwood, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.

He was born on Jan.1, 1915, in Eveleth, the son of Albert and Anne (Bolstad) Finseth. He grew up in Underwood, attended and graduated from Underwood High School in 1934. After graduation, he attended business college in Moorhead, then was employed as an Office Manager at the Underwood Creamery. In 1937, he met Dorine Smith. The couple were married on Aug. 2, 1941, in Minneapolis. They resided in Underwood for 60 years, where they raised six children. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines and Luzon. He was discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. After his discharge, he returned to Underwood where he resumed working at the creamery. In 1952, he began working as an Office Manager at the Fergus Falls Creamery, most recently, Mid Am-Dairy, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Lord Jesus Fellowship Church in Fergus Falls. He was active in the city of Underwood, serving as City Clerk and President of the Underwood School Board for 11 years. He was also a member of the Underwood American Legion where he served as Adjutant. He enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, family camping trips, and astronomy. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He had a gift of making people laugh. He loved and served his Lord.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Allen; one sister Alvhild; two brothers, Russell, and Harold; and grandson, Kraig Larson.

Survivors include his wife, Dorine Finseth; children, Judy (Ken) Nygard of Eugene, Ore.; Loren (Lorna) of Minneapolis, Warren (Cheri) of Battle Lake, Bjorn (Barbara) of Fergus Falls, and Eric (Rita) of Underwood; 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; special family member, Deb Schmidt; sister, Hedvig Ostrom of Orlando, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Virginia of Renton, Wash., and Sylvia of Columbia Heights. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lord Jesus Fellowship Church, Fergus Falls
