HORRIBLE SUICIDE!

Courtland Carter, a young man whose mother resides at Helmsburg, in Brown
County, deliberately committed suicide at that place yesterday by diving in
front of an Indianapolis Southern work train. The body was terribly
mangled and death was instantaneous. Carter has always been a black
sheep. Ten years ago at the age of 16 he ran away from home and since that
time has been a wanderer, more often in trouble than not. Since he ran
away he has never been back home until yesterday, although about 5 years
ago he was headed homeward when caught attempting to rob a box car at
Columbus. He made his escape but was afarid to come on home.

Yesterday he roamed into town and, after talking with a number of his
boyhood friends, he started down the railroad track to the home of his
mother. The work train running at considerable speed, caught up with him
and with apparently no hesitation he threw himself under its wheels.
