Stephen L Vatalis/Christiansen, 44, of Greeley, died July 10, 1996, at in Fort Collins.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 W. 20th St., in Greeley. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Mon day at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
Mr. Christiansen was born September 21, 1951, to Earl L. Jr. and Barbara Jo (Weir) Vitalis in Boulder.
He was raised in Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School and Northeastern Junior College.
He married Laura Mia Diosdado Sept. 17, 1977, in Greeley.
Mr. Christiansen spent 14 years working at the Hewlett Packard in Loveland. During this time, he earned an Associates of Arts Degree at Aims Community College and the Dorothy Stewart Award for Writing.
In 1995 he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of
Northern Colorado where he was a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an English Honor Society. He distinguished himself in the master's program in English at UNC after receiving his bachelor's degree, and in 1994 he was awarded the Departmental Scholars Award at UNC by the English department. Recently, Mr. Christiansen had been a Graduate Student Teaching Assistant at UNC.
He was recognized on the dean's list at UNC and was a member of the Key Honor Society and the Trinity Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife Laura of Greeley; mother, the Rev. Barbara Christiansen of Loveland; father Earl L. Vitalis and wife Winona of Toronto; a brother, Bob Christiansen of Salida; a sister, Kathy Christen of Loveland; a mother-in-law, Helen W. King; a brother-in-law, Martin Diosdado Jr.; and eight nieces and nephews.
Mr. Christiansen was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lt. Floyd N. Christiansen.
