Services for the wife of Nelson Jasper Burdick were held at the Whitewood Presbyterian Church with the Rev. C.D. Erskine officiating. There were short services held at the family residence east of Whitewood. The presence of many sorrowing friends and neighbors, and the beautiful flowers covered the casket, showed the esteen in which Mrs. Burdick had been held.
The pallbearers were Silas Richey, John Stitt, George Richey, Sanford Sommers, Hans Hansen and Emil Letteau. Interment was made in Whitewood Cemetery.
Margretha Mary Geogiana Kautz was born in Kohlsville, Wisconsin, a daughter of Julius and Louise Margaret (Capple) Kautz on March 5, 1868.
She married Nelson Jasper Burdick on April 10, 1890 in Central City, South Dakota. To this union, there were eight children born, six of this number as still living. She leaves her husband, daughters, Ella Short of Bixby, Mabel Estes of Buckhorn, Wyoming, Gladys and Minnie of Whitewood. Two sons, George of Whitewood and Glen of Bixby; three sisters, Mrs. Emilie Becker of Stauton, Nebraska, Mrs. Kate Ward of Boise, Idaho and Sophia Grube of Ashton, Idaho. And three brothers; George Kautz of Boise, Idaho, Jacob Kautz of Ashton, Idaho and Peter Kautz of Homer, Nebraska.
