Robert E. "Bob" Tharp, age 86, of Piedmont, was born 2/20/23 to Frank and Ethel (Kelsey) Tharp in Reeding, OK. Bob graduated Piedmont High School in 1942. He married Betty Burkhead 9/3/42 and served in US Army 2/43 to 12/47. His decorations included EAME Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars-Normandy, N. France, Rhineland, Central Europe, WW II Victory Medal and others. In civilian life, he farmed, built cabinets, and raised 4 children: Johnny, Mary Kay, Larry & Robert. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Larry in 1975 and Johnny in 2008; and brothers, Ralph and Cecil; and brother-in-law, Wesley Wal-ler. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty; daughter, Mary Kay, husband, Phil Huggard, and son, Bradley, of OKC; his son, Robert, wife, Christy, children, Tyler & Courtney, of Piedmont, OK; sister, Helen Waller of Cashion, OK; and sisters-in-law: Shirley Tharp of Midwest City and Ilene Tharp of Kingfisher. Bob was a member of the Methodist Church for over 40 years. He helped establish the Piedmont Historical Museum to honor Harold Collett, the teacher who taught him his woodworking skills. He also was helpful in beginning the Piedmont Alumni Association. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Piedmont Museum, Box 233, Piedmont, OK 73078. Viewing will be held Tuesday 9/15/09 from 10:00am- 8:00pm. Services will be held 10:00am, Wed. 9/16/09, at Piedmont Methodist Church, 2525 Piedmont Rd.
