ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Billy Ray Avery, age 70, of 7030 Hwy 153, Americus, GA died early Saturday morning, January 17, 2009 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA . Funeral services will be held at Ellaville Baptist Church 11:00 AM, Monday, January 19, 2009 with burial to follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Rev. Bill Givens and Rev. Ben Foxworth will officiate.
Mr. Avery was born March 13,1938 in Sumter County, GA, the son of Henry Clay and Odessa Bowen Avery. He served in the United States Army and was retired from the Sumter County Correctional Institute. Mr. Avery was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church . He had served as a deacon and was a member of the Peace Officers of Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Glynda Battle Avery, one daughter Teresa Peterman of McDonough, GA; one son and daughter in law, Randy and Sundie Avery of Ellaville, GA; three brothers and two sisters in law, Charles and Mary Avery of Americus, GA, Leonard and Barbara Avery of Oglethorpe, GA, Eugene Avery of Oglethorpe, GA, three sisters and one brother in law, Ruth Bellew, Bernice Felker, Imogene and Billy Law, all of Oglethorpe, GA., four grandchildren, Blake Peterman, Chandler Peterman, Trevor Avery and Dallas Avery. Several nieces and nephews. Special Friends Joe and Louise Tidd also survive.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Peterman, Blake Peterman, Trevor Avery, Dallas Avery, Wayne Bellew, Darrell Felker and Kenneth Avery. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Tidd, Tommy Avery, Jimmy Bellew, Bill Law and Steve Avery.
