Maedora Elizabeth Fewkes Helm, 89, of East Wenatchee, and a former resident of Okanogan County, died Sunday, march 27, 1994, in parkside Rehab Center and Care Center in Wenatchee.
She was born May 22, 1904, to Shannon and Elizabeth (Hering) Fewkes at Brown, Ill. As an infant she moved with her parents to Athol, Idaho. They then lived briefly in Wenatchee and Spokane before moving to Tonasket in 1917. She graduated from Tonasket High School in 1923, and from Western Washington College in Bellingham in 1930.
She married Ervin Carl Helm on March 10, 1927, at Tonasket. They lived at Havillah, Brewster and Republic, and then moved to Omak in 1945.
Mrs. Helm taught school for 17 years, including 12 years at Brewster. They moved to Omak and she worked for Seattle First National Bank for 23 years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of the Omak Church of Christ, DeRouge Orthopedic Auxiliary, Okanogan County Historical Society and Omak Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a foster dauther, Iva Irene Fewkes of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970 and three brothers.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April l22, 1994 at 1:00 pm at Precht-Harrison Chapel with Merrill Spence, officiant. Memorials may be made to the Children's Orthopedic Hospital through the DeRouge Orthopedic Auxiliary. Inturnment will bein the Tonasket Cemetery. Precht-Harrison Chapel in charge of arrangements.
