Nichols, Ia., Feb. 20 --- The funeral of B. N. Smith, who died Tuesday morning after an illness of three years duration, was held here at St. Mary’s church this morning. The Rev. Father H. M. Thoman was in charge of the services. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery west of Nichols.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were, William Mapes of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Josie Mapes of Davenport; Fred Mapes of Des Moines, and Mrs. Jessie John of Carroll, Ia.

B. N. Smith was born in Atalissa, Ia., June 2, 1891, the son of Leonard B. Smith and Mary A. James Smith. When a small child he moved with his parents to Conesville and 20 years ago came to Nichols where he became associated with the Nichols Savings band as assistant cashier, later as cashier and at the time of his death he held the office of vice president.

He was married to Mayme Mapes of Nichols Jan. 2, 1914. Four children were born to them two dying in infancy. Mary Genevieve and Leonard Benjamin together with the widow, Mrs. Mayme Smith, two sisters, Mrs. Jessie John of Carroll, and Mrs. Charles Mills of Nichols, and his mother, Mrs. L. B. Smith, survive.

His father, Leonard B. Smith preceded him death three years ago.

He was a member of the B.P.O.E. of Muscatine, the Masonic lodge A. F. and A. M. No 445 of Nichols, Ia., and a member of St. Mary’s church of Nichols.
