He is survived by his wife, Henrietta, of their home in Tuttle, Oklahoma, his son Dennis and wife, Loretta (White) Steen of Edmond, Oklahoma, his daughter, Donna (Steen) and husband, Donald Wayne Plumlee of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and his son Danny Ray and wife, Carolyn Sue "Susie" (Sperry) Steen of Blanchard, Oklahoma. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Leea Rena, Lana Michele, and Lauri Richele Steen, two grandsons, Timothy Scott and Christopher Stacy Plumlee, and by a granddaughter that he was never able to meet on earth, Lacey Danielle Steen, who was born after his death.

He is also survived by his father, James Franklin Steen of Wheeler, Texas; brothers: Jesse Van Steen of Canadian, Texas, Charles Franklin Steen of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Alvin Leeroy Steen of Corsicana, Texas, Archie Nathaniel Steen of Porum, Oklahoma, Wesley Merdith Steen of Wheeler, Texas, and Curtis Wayne Steen of Bethany, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews.
