Alma Ruth Massengale Noel, 87, died on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at a local nursing home.
Ruth grew up on Signal Hills Drive and was in the first graduating class of Red Bank High School in 1941. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, traveling and family. Living in Summerville, GA for many years, she retired from Regal Textile. After retirement, she assisted at the Summerville Head Start Program and library, later moving to Rossville, GA.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Howard Jarvis; second husband, Robert W. Noel; parents, Elbert and Emma Lee Holloway Massengale; and siblings, Fred, Brooks, Ray, Howard, Elbert and Elsie Massengale.
She is survived by five children, Judith Shelton, of Rossville, GA, Kenneth Jarvis, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Edward Lamar Jarvis, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Marilyn (Howard) Hunt, of Dalton, GA, and Scott (Lynn) Noel, of Trion, GA; sister, Elizabeth Massengale, of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Clyde Massengale, of South Pittsburgh, TN; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2009, in the funeral home chapel with Elder David King officiating.
Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 18, 2009 after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
