Charles Ezra Bullock was born to Rev. Lewis Franklin Bullock & Betsy (Read) Bullock. Lewis & Betsy spent the winter of 1851-52 with relatives in New York. They had with them their two youngest sons, Albert (age 1-2) and Charles (less than 1-yr). Lewis contracted typhoid and died in February 1852. Betsy succumbed to the same disease in April 1852. Albert was adopted by William & Melissa Cain, but his name remained "Bullock." Charles was "adopted" by Ira & Marjorie Sheppard and his name was changed to theirs. Throughout his life, though, he remained in contact with his older Bullock siblings, William, Melissa and Rutson. Albert is said to have died when the Cain family moved from New York to Minnesota in the early 1860s. For genealogical reasons, the Bullock name should be included in this record.
