Eugene C. Southern, 67, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, February 12, 1997 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Carroll County, Va. on September 9, 1929 to the late John Wesley and Gracie Mae Lawson Southern.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Earthel Davis Southern, Blacksburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jean and Larry Roop, Lynchburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy W. and Melanie Southern, Pilot; five grandchildren, Heather and Kirsten Roop, Lynchburg, Tony, Travis and Savana Southern, Pilot; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Mathena, Blacksburg, Peggy and Bill Schmidt of Pennsylvania, Katherine and David Hedge, Salem; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Juanita Southern, Blacksburg, Leo and Clara Southern, Freddie and Frances Southern, all of Christiansburg, John and Ellen Southern, Allen and Drema Southern, all of Radford, Jerry Southern and Earl Southern of Pennsylvania; four aunts, one uncle, a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous special friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 1997 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Allen and the Rev. Mike Vest officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends Friday, February 14, 1997, from 7 to 9 p.m . at McCoy Funeral Home.
