Kenny "K.K." Highberger, 79, Garnett, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 1, 1920, at Westphalia to Paul and Lydia (Gifford) Highberger. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Caroline Dover on Feb. 19, 1944, at Westphalia. She survives.

He was a field superintendent for Cities Service Gas Company, working in Colony, Garden City, Wichita, Miami, Okla., Knob Noster, Mo., and Lenexa. He retired in 1982 and moved to Garnett.

He was a member of the James H. Shields Council 1368 Knights of Columbus, Garnett; the Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett; Garnett Optimist Club and a supporter of Maur Hill Prep School, Atchison.

His survivors also include four sons, Ken Highberger, Rye, Colo., Gary Highberger, Tulsa, Okla., Rev. Don Highberger, Spokane, Wash., and Steve Highberger, Stilwell; two brothers, Milton Highberger, Guymon, Okla., and Jude Highberger, Topeka; two sisters, Eleanor Matreci, Wichita, and Catherine Black, Wichita; and eight grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Highberger.

Funeral mass was this morning at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, with his son officiating. Burial was at Holy Angels Cemetery. Memorials to Holy Angels School, Garnett. Farris Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett, in charge.
