in World War 1 in the 26th Infantry Division, Company C., Machine Gun Batalion.
On 29 April 1919 he was discharged.
His rank was Sergeant. He was severely wounded in the last drive at Verdun.

George and Virena married on
4 December 1920 at West Hartford, Hardford, Connecticut.

They were the parents of one daughter;
Joan Virena.

G. Ricker Gowen died Saturday, February 23 in his home at New Hartford after a long illness.
He was the husband of Virena M. Gowen.
He was a member of the Hartford Club; the City Club; the Sphinx Temple Guard; the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Charlotte in North Carolina; Eureka Grange; Pomona Grange; Washington Commandry; Circus Fans Association of America; York Rite College; the Musketerrs; Wolcott Council 1; and a life member of York Lodge of Grand Rapids in Michigan. He was treasurer emeritus of Zem Zem Shrine Club; an honorary member of the Travelers Square Club; past treasurer of the Barkhamsted Lions Club.
Until his retirement he was manager of the office of administration department of Travelers Insurance Co.
He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Yankee Division Veterans Association.
He was a communicant of St. John's Church
of Pine Meadow.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
