MRS. MAJOR LILLY DIES IN ST. LOUIS
Funeral Services Here Thursday For Widow Of Well Known Lawyer
Mrs. Major J. Lilly, former Moberly resident, died at 3:45 o'clock yesterday morning in Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, following an illness of several months.
The former Miss Irma Ragland, she was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Letitia Bassett Ragland, prominent citizens of the Madison vicinity, and was born on the Ragland farm on March 9, 1878. She attended rural schools in that community and later attended Middle Grove College. She was married July 17, 1901, to Mr. Lilly, later a well-known lawyer of Moberly. At the time of their marriage Mr. Lilly was school commissioner of Randolph County. He died in 1937.
Mrs. Lilly was assistant matron in the Christian Orphan's Home in St. Louis for two years, but underwent a major operation last April, after which she made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James G. See of Lebanon, Ill., formerly of Moberly. Later her condition became worse and on July 17 she entered the hospital, where she died.
Mrs. Lilly was a member of the Coates Street Presbyterian Church, of Randolph Chapter 150, O.E.S., of the Social Order of the Beauceant, of Tabitha Walton Chapter of D.A.R. and of several other social organizations.
Besides the daughter, Mrs. See, the former Margaret Lilly, she is survived by a son, Staff Sgt. Frank R. Lilly, who is stationed at an embarkation port in California; a brother, Frank B. Ragland, near Madison; two nieces, Miss Mary Virginia Ragland, Madison, and Mrs. Ernest Bremer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and two nephews, Major W. Ragland of St. Helena, Ore. and Staples R. Ragland of El Paso, Tex. Another brother, William H. Ragland, died in 1910.
The body will arrive here tonight on Wabash train No. 9 and will be taken to the Mahan Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Coates Street Presbyterian Church, conducted by its pastor, Dr. Allen Duncan, and burial will be in Felps Chapel Cemetery by the side of Mr. Lilly.
The son, Sgt. Lilly is expected to arrive here sometime Wednesday.
