Michael Lee "Butch" Barnes, 63, of Quapaw, Oklahoma died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at his home after an illness.

He was born August 3, 1946 to Richard Jenks and Viola Mae (Dushane) Barnes in Claremore, Oklahoma.

He served in the United States Army from August 23, 1966 to August 22, 1968 as Specialist fourth class, with an M.O.S. as an All Wheel Vehicle Mechanic.

He was a member of the Shawnee Tribe and also a member of the Spring River Indian Baptist Church.

He lived in the Quapaw area most of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Irvin Jenks Barnes and Benny Orson Barnes 2 sisters: Cleora Anita Scott and Barbara Ann Wilson.

Survivors include 4 brothers: David Barnes of Quapaw, OK, Clifford Barnes of Quapaw, OK, Richard Barnes of Grove, OK, and Simpson Barnes of Baxter Springs, KS.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Spring River Indian Baptist Church with the Rev. Geoff Buffalo officiating.

Interment will follow in the White Oak Shawnee Cemetery under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be Brett, Cliff, Bill, Benjamin and Richard Barnes III, Edward Scott, Joe Wilson, James Harris and Terry Spencer, Jr.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of Peggy Spencer 6897 S 670rd, Quapaw, Oklahoma 74363.
