Charles Burleigh Thompson was the son of Lewis and Rosanna (Gordon) Thompson. He joined the military in 1877 as a 2nd Lt. of the 5th Infantry. Promoted to Regimental Quartermaster in 1885. After leaving the military he worked for a period of time for the government travelling to such places as Cuba.
