Mary Jane was first married to Sylvester Proctor in Cass County, Michigan, March 28, 1847. Together they had 10 children, Elizabeth, Matilda, Hannah, Marilda, Calvin C., John Malvin, Flora Estell, Ada, Leonard Noah, Lettie Belle. They lived in Washington Township, Elkhart County, Indiana. Matilda married Nicholas Webber, March 15 1867 in Mason, Cass, Michigan. She had two sons, John and James. This was reported to be an abusive marriage resulting in Matilda moving back home with her parents. January 10, 1871, Nicholas came to the home and tried to forcibly enter after being forbidden by Matilda's father, Sylvester. At this point Sylvester Proctor shot and killed Nicholas Webber. Proctor was charged with murder and after 2 trials was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 3 years in prison. Presumably sometime after he was released some of the families moved to Kansas. Sylvester reported to have died near Wichita, Kansas in 1877.
Mary Jane Proctor married Nelson Gunsaulis in Winfield, Cowley, Kansas in February 1883. In 1885 Nelson, Mary Jane and her son Noah Proctor lived in Green, Sumner, Kansas according to the Kansas State Census for that year. This marriage must have ended in divorce as "Mary J Proctor" and Noah are living in Oklahoma Territory according to the 1890 Oklahoma Territorial Census, Township 13. Her son Calvin and wife Callie and family were also listed on the same census page on the lines below Mary Jane.
Mary Jane Gunsaulis married again to Lewis Simon as shown in the Oklahoma County marriage records 1889-1951 on 11 December 1890. Lewis Simons died December 27, 1892. After the death of Lewis Simon, Mary Jane married William Abbott, but no information has been located about him, except at the time of her estate probate he lived in Tohee, Logan, Oklahoma. The probate records of the estates of Mary Jane Abbott and Lewis Simon can be found in the Probate Records from Oklahoma County 1890-1928. Mary Jane Abbott's cemetery plot is owned by John Proctor, her son.
