He'd had a stroke earlier. Charles was born Sept. 11, 1870 at Hawleyville, Page County, Iowa, to Robert Albert Miller and Sarah Jane Sanderson.
His siblings were Elmer of Colorado and Frank of Iowa.
Charles had a 10th grade education and become a school teacher, Ella Alice Barton was one of his students , and she become his wife on April 6, 1898 at Sheridan, Wyoming. In 1948 they enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary, in Bremerton, in Kitsap County. Washington.
Their children were Vera; Sarah (Ross McMillan); Robert; Harry (Lee); Thomas Henry (Marguerite); Jay Guy (Laura); Grace (Ralph Hemmingway) . Two of their children, Vera and Robert, died in the river in Idaho, at a very young age.
The family lived in many places, Illinois, Missouri, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington state.
Charles was a school teacher and a cook for a wagon crew, a farmer and he worked on the railroad train, and later in life, in a Bremerton Laundry.
In 1898 Charles was a member the Republican Party. He and his family loved to play cards and if you dropped by their home, you played cards. Charles was very proud to be the uncle of the band leader, Glenn Miller. He talked of him often.
Charles was buried in Bremerton, WA, next to his wife, Ella in the Ivy Green Cemetery. They were both Christians and rest in Heaven now, together. JYM
