Her senior year she met and became engage to Richard. It being the height of the depression (1930) she taught two more years before they were able to get married on June 17, 1932.
Two girls were born. Mary Louise and Carolyn Ann. She was active as a home room mother, a girl scout and 4-H leader. She made all her own clothes and those of her daughters.
She was a prefect hostess to many missionaries, chaplains, translators and foreign visitors. She had a way of putting people at ease. She learned about each person she met and remembered those details. Thus, she had many dear friends throughout the world. A former student wrote:
"I need to tell you how much you have enriched my life. With you as a model, I have learned to live in serenity rather than turmoil; to accept others as they are and to love rather than be loved; to pursue ideals as well as deal with realities; and to serve others."
She and her husband Richard had 51 supremely happy years together in a peaceful and loving home environment.
