Applegate, Ira, One of oldest residents of Poweshiek County, Iowa. Died March 11, 1924 at Soldiers Home, Kansas. Born Morgan County, Indiana March 12, 1839 and came to Poweshiek County, Iowa in 1853, settling in Sugar Creek Twp. Married 1860 to Mitilda White. Served in Civil War under Captain Carr and saw active service. Survived by four sons.
His brother , Thomas S Applegate, enlisted the same day into the same company of the 28th Iowa Infantry.
