Mr. Hull, a guest on the ranch had failed to return to the ranch headquarters from a walk and officers were notified.
Mr. Hull was born at Ionia, Kan., and spent his childhood there. Since moving to Colorado, he had lived with his mother, Mrs. Susan B. Hull, at Colona until her death in 1939. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and the Odd Fellows and the Rebekah Lodges.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Montrose Funeral Home under the direction of the Flor Mortuary of Ouray. Burial will be in Colona Cemetery.
Surviving are two brothers, Tom Hull of Colona and E.E. Hull of Eckert; two sisters Mrs. Eva Dolan of Las Animas and Mrs. Bertha Campbell of Montrose.
When I, Roanna Dolan Griffin, was a kid in 2nd grade and living with my grandparents Emmett and Sylvia Boyer to finish school that year Uncle Ike would drive me to the bus stop if the weather was cold or storming so I wouldn't have to stand outside and wait. On nice days he would sit on the back porch at grandma & Popa's with the 22 in hand and shoot under the cats when they came into Grandma's garden to do their business. They would jump up so high and turn in mid air and haul out of the garden.
I can also remember my grandmother telling me that when they came in to dinner he would go to the wash stand, dip the tips of his fingers in the wash pan and leave all the dirt on her towels. I don't think she ever said anything to him about it but it sure left her towels dirty..
Uncle Ike was a sheep herder and was with the sheep up on either Horsefly Mesa or Hastings Mesa when he died. I guess he didn't come down when he was supposed to so Popa and some others went to look for him. Popa found him dead on the ground with his walking stick still in his hand like he just fell over dead. He died on my brothers birthday, June 30, 1957. I remember him fondly.
