The daughter of Richard and Edna (Edmundson) Willis, Margaret was born on May 29, 1922 in Mitchellville. She was a graduate of Mitchellville High School. Margaret also attended Capital City Commercial College and then worked at Home Insurance Company. She later went on to work at CNA Insurance Company for 15 years. On April 21, 1945, Margaret was united in marriage with Cecil Charls at the First Congregational Church in Mitchellville. Margaret was a 4H leader for three years. She also enjoyed making shirts for Cecil and the boys and dresses for the girls, but never had time to sew for herself. Margaret later made quilts, knitted and crocheted. In her later years, she gave of her time sewing quilt tops for My Brother's Keepers. She was a member of the Mothers Club and Prairie City Church of the Brethren, where she served on various committees and was president of women's fellowship.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband Cecil Charls of Prairie City; son, Wade Bruce Charls and his wife Leona of Prairie City; daughter, Jane Lynn Charls of Prairie City; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Dick (Barb) Charls of Prairie City; and one sister, Eileen Taylor of Prairie City. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, three children; Marcella Jean Fisher, Janel Lorraine Charls, and William Alan Charls, one grandson, Daniel William Sharr, three brothers; George Willis, Francis Willis, and Richard Willis, and one sister, Ruth Mayer.
