Milton J. Cross dies at Colwood
Home Saturday; Rev. W.J.
Cross at Flint, Sunday

Two brothers well known in Tuscola County, died on succeeding days, Milton J. Cross, Colwood, Saturday; and Rev. William J. Cross, pastor of the Hall Free Methodist Church, Sunday. The former suffered a stroke Thursday after a year of failing health; and the latter died in a Flint hospital after an operation. Milton Cross was 74 years-of-age and his brother was 67.

Both were born in Hainesville, Dundas Co.Ontario and Milton Cross was a resident of Colwood and Caro at intervals for the past 40 years. Two years ago he moved back from Caro to his farm. He is survived by his widow, nee Hattie Hare; three daughters, and two sons, 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The children are Miss Adelaide Cross of San Francisco, CA; James Cross at home; Mrs. Myrtle Smith of Colwood; Mrs. Elizabeth Armbruster, and Arthur Cross of Detroit.

Rev. William Cross had been a pastor of Free Methodist Churches for about 40 years. He came to the Hall Church only a short time ago following the transfer authorized at the Michigan Conference. He is survived by his widow Mary Etta Hutchinson Cross and 5 sons, Milton, Paul, Newell, Firman and Wendall, all of Flint.

Surviving the two are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. David N. Earl, Caro; Mrs. Robert Brewster Hare, Unionville; and Ezra Cross, Fairhope, AL.

Funeral services for Milton Cross were held Monday afternoon at the home, Rev. H.W. Kuhlman of Kochville, officiating, with burial in Almer Cemetery.

Funeral services for Rev. Cross were held Tuesday at the Oaks Street Free Methodist Church, Flint, with burial in Almer Cemetery.

Rev. William James Cross, Caro, Michigan , age 68, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1937, at Hurley Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, October 20, 1937, from the First Free Methodist Church, Rev. A.E. Potbury officiating. Burial in Caro. Body will be at Algoe-Gundry until Wednesday noon, then will be taken to the church. He was a former pastor of the Oak Street Free Methodist Church. for a number of years. Surviving are wife; 5 sons, Newall David and Paul Wesley of Flint, Dr. Firminn James of Detroit, William Wendall and Milton Algernon of Davison, 5 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. David Earl(Suphronia) of Caro and Mrs. Robert Hare (Mary Evelina) both of Caro, one brother Rev. E. A. Cross of Fairhope, Alabama.

Cross, Rev William James Sr., was born in Hainesville, Dundas Co.Ontario, June 20, 1869, and died at Flint, Michigan, October 17, 1937. He attended Iroquois and Belleville Colleges in Canada, later receiving the degree of PhD at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. The first four of 48 years of Ministry were spent on Methodist charges in Canada. The following 15 years found him serving pastorates in the Northern New York Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, which time he was ordained deacon and elder. In 1908 he moved to Michigan, where for fifteen years he served as a Methodist Pastor.

In 1923 he felt definntely called to unite with the Free Methodist Church of which he was a faithful and staunch member until his death, serving as a pastor at the following charges in the East Michigan Conference: West Branch, Flint (Oak Street), St. Johns, Davison, Perry and Caro. Soon after entering the ministry he married Mary Etta Hutchinson. Surviving him besides his widow, are five sons, Newall, Paul, Firmin, William, Milton and other relatives. Funeral conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. S.R.
