Robert William Scherer, son of Elizabeth and Adam Scherer, was born March 1, 1878 in Preston Township, Richland County, Illinois. he was baptized in infancy and was confirmed at an early age into the Saron Reformed Church, Dundas, Illinois, later transferring his membership to the First Reformed church at Olney, Illinois. He was active in this church until the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Clara L. Burgener, on December 20, 1903. At that time their home was established in Preston Township, where their family was reared and where he resided until his death. He was preceded in death by a son, Earl Edwin, his mother, father, two sisters and three brothers. He leaves to mourn his wife, Clara, two daughters, Mrs. Bernadine Johnson of Omaha, Neb., and Agnes of Olney, two sons, Donald of Olney, and John of Pittsburgh, Pa., three brothers, Henry, Theodore and John, all of Olney. six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends and neighbors. He departed this life May 11, 1943 at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 10 days. His memory is treasured as a dear husband, a loving father, a true friend and a respected citizen.
