James served as a Sergeant on B-24H #42-95328, 741st Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Rock Island County, Illinois prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on April 3, 1943 in Peoria, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Married.
James was originally declared "Missing In Action" in Yugoslavia during the war. His remains were recovered in early 1955 and his status was changed to "Killed In Action".
He was repatriated here on March 2, 1955.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Service # 36479963
The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
