J. W. Hollinsworth served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24H #42-50424, 740th Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Colorado prior to the war.

J. W. was originally declared "Missing In Action" in Yugoslavia during the war. His remains were recovered in early 1955 and his status was changed to "Killed In Action".

He was repatriated here on March 2, 1955.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He also has a memorial marker at the Florence American Cemetery .

Service ID: 38110976.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
