Elias J Smith, who lived practically all his life in Marion County, fought in the Confederate Army. He was married to Miss Sarah Singleton to which union were born three children.
He came to South Pittsburgh, TN in the year 1891 and was associated with his son-in-law, B. F. Thompson, in the woodworking department of his blacksmith shop.
Mr Smith died in South Pittsburgh on August 15, 1917.
Many of the Hustler's older citizens will remember Mr Smith as a "dinner boy." As regularly as pig tracks he would deliver dinner to the Thompson shop. He was invariably humming and singing and all callers were soon aware of his presence.
He was a good citizen and a Christian man.
