Charlotte Eleanor Boice, 94, of Harmony, passed away at her home on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Greenfield Lutheran Cemetery.

Charlotte was born in Iowa on July 6, 1915, the daughter of Edward and Charlotte Highum of Preston. She grew up in Preston with one brother, Percival. She attended Winona State Teachers College. Before she married, she taught third and fourth grades for two years in Harmony. She married Orville Hoiness of Harmony on Sept. 2, 1937. They had two children, Bonnie Marie and Charles Orville.

She did not teach again until 1948, when she became the first grade teacher in Harmony. She taught in this position for 32 years.

Orville passed away in 1957. She married Harold Boice of Harmony in 1961. He passed away in 1985.

Charlotte spent her whole adult life in Harmony, was a member of Greenfield Lutheran Church and the Esther circle. She remained active in her beloved church and circle until her passing.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Charles) Davis of Parkers Prairie, Minn., and Charles (Mary) Hoiness of Phoenix, Ariz., two stepsons, Richard (Kay) Boice and Robert (Kathy) Boice of Harmony; one stepdaughter, Helen (Duane) Cwanson of Missouri; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; husband Orville Hoiness, and husband Harold Boice; and a granddaughter, Jane Palacios.

Charlotte was surrounded by many loving friends and family that made her life rich and happy in Harmony. A special thank you to those friends, and to the Heritage Grove staff that took her under their wings and kept her safe. Your kindness will always be remembered.
