Civic leader. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he received four medals and was a former commander of the Southington Post of Catholic War Veterans. A graduate of Lewis High School and Stone Business College, he owned Towne Dry Cleaners and Milldale Drive-In Cleaners for more than 40 years. As an active member of the Greater Southington Chamber of Commerce, he regularly sponsored the downtown Christmas lighting program and was a notable supporter of improvements in the downtown business district, including the development of Columbus Avenue and the addition of municipal parking and street lighting. Credited with purchasing American flags and benches for the Town Green though the years, he was most notably a member of the group that conceived the Southington Apple Harvest Festival. After Mr. Piteo's death, his daughter took over operation of Towne Dry Cleaners. She sold the business in May 1987.
