Wallace Dalton Bascue, 70, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 11, 1939, in Ozark, Ark., to Tobie S. and Pearl Self Bascue.

A Garden City resident since 1959, moving from Ozark, Mr. Bascue served as Finney County Undersheriff from 1963 to 1965. He also had worked as a truck driver until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City, and enjoyed playing softball, Texas Hold 'Em, fishing, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.

On Feb. 11, 1961, he married Glorianne Rose Knoll in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Kevin and Brad Bascue, both of Garden City, Brian Bascue of Newton, and Chad Bascue of Olathe; four daughters, Pamela Ricard of Manhattan, Brenda Amaro of Olathe, and Jennifer Maier and Becky Rundell, both of Garden City; a brother, Archie Bascue of Garden City; a sister, Bobby Claunch of Goose Creek, S.C.; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Jean Bascue.

Vigil and rosary service was at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass was at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
