When Charles married Martha Jane "Jennie" Allen, two of her family members were witnesses.

He was in the grocery business with Richard S. Clark, who boarded at 706 Gaines Street. His wife, Jennie was residing at the same address, and her occupation was dressmaker.

In the 1895 Little Rock city directory, they were still living at the same address, and Charles's occupation was Hawkins and Raymond. He was in the grocery business with Burwell G. Raymond.

Charles wrote a will dated 16 Aug 1897, and he left his real and personal property to his wife, Jennie and left $1.00 to each of his children, Bertha, Charles, Halsey and Gertrude Hawkins. His will was filed 30 Aug 1897 by Charles F. Martin, clerk of Pulaski County Probate Courts. When his will was filed, it reflected he died on 16 Aug 1897. His will was admitted to probate 1 Oct 1897.
