Major William L. "Bill" Bland, age 59 of Winchester passed away Sunday September 27, 2009 at the Willow of Winchester following a courageous battle with cancer. A 1968 graduate of Franklin County High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Bland retired with more than 26 years of service to his country. He achieved the rank of Major and served in Greece, Germany and Alaska.
Mr. Bland is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Bland; father, Elmer "Bob" Bland; brothers, Terry Lee Bland, Roger Dale Bland and Rick Bland. He is survived by his daughter, Brieann (Greg) Lindsey of Decherd; son, Randy (Heather) Bland of Portland, OR; mother, Doris "Bea" Bland of Winchester; sisters, Sue (Tommy) Crossland of Winchester and Diane (Danny) Hall of Decherd; brother, Wayne (Melissa) Bland of Dandridge, TN; grandson, Gavin Lindsey; step-granddaughter, Christina Card; 15 nieces and nephews, and 19 great nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Darlene Taylor. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday September 30, 2009 from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home.
