Carl Orville Aarnes, 84, Detroit Lakes, formerly of Crookston, died Thursday, September 16, 1993 in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, where he had lived for the past few years.

Carl Orville Aarnes was born April 26, 1909, the son of Oscar and Emma (Peterson) Aarnes. he attended school in Crookston, He married Muriel Ohm, November 1, 1936. He and his brother, Oscar, operated a taxi service in Crookston during the early 1930's. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Oregon from 1940 to 1956. After returning to Crookston, he worked 20 years for the city of Crookston. In 1970, they moved to Detroit Lakes, where he worked for Winston Larson and the Pelican Water Shed.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carleen and (Mrs. Robert) Wood, Warren, Minnesota; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Larum; a brother, Oscar; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, infant grandson; and two sisters, Agnes Darkow and Elva Skaug.
