Merle Feick-Sundell, 103, Grand Forks, ND died Monday, November 20, 2006 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare of Grand Forks, ND

Merle Johnson was born on the family farm in Park Center, ND on February 13, 1903 to Alfred & Mary Johnson. She graduated from Neche High School in 1920 and taught in a one-room school house in Joliet, ND for two years. In 1922 she married James Henry (Harry) Feick. They moved to Grafton, ND before settling in Angus, MN where Harry managed the Angus Farmers Elevator. Merle worked as a bookkeeper for her husband while raising 3 children. She was widowed in 1950 and moved to Grand Forks in 1952 where she worked at Norby's department store and later was employed as a bookkeeper at Ryan Farms in East Grand Forks, MN. Merle married Claude Sundell in 1957. Claude died in 1974. After Claude's death, Merle enjoyed coffee with friends, walking the South Forks Mall, reading good books and working word puzzles. She was involved in numerous activities at her church and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grand children and great-great grandchildren. In 1997 she moved to Parkwood Place and to Valley Eldercare in 2005.

She is survived by her daughter, Mern Olson (George), Grand Forks; Son, Gale Feick (Kay), Anaheim, CA; Step-son, Ronald Sundell (Mary), New Brighton, MN; Grandchildren, Judith Schalow, Chaska, MN, Marshall Olson, Crookston, MN, Cheryl Molenaar, Darwin, MN, Denese Sollom, Wenatchee, W A , Kathy Jo Bendokatis, Lake Forest, CA, James Feick, Carlsbad, CA, Jennifer Liebelt, Grand Forks, Janell Scherer, Grand Forks; Brother-in-law, Deryl Fisher (Carol); Niece, Penny McKinnon; 20 Great Grandchildren; 9 Great Great Grandchildren. Merle was preceded death a daughter, Joy Wavra; sisters, Veda McNamara and Bernice Fisher; great grandson, Brock Olson. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
