Shirley Ackerman, 77, of Milan, passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 5, 2013, in her residence following a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 2, 1936, in Norwalk, to James and Grace (Weichel) Riley.

She was employed by Fanny Farmer and Grundy's Loft for several years, and then retired from Ford Motor Company after 26 years of service. She was a member of the Milan American Legion Woman's Auxiliary, the Norwalk VFW and Eagles, St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, and enjoyed volunteering for funeral luncheons. She loved cooking, gambling, playing slots at casinos, and having fun with her family and friends.

She is survived by her four children, Carla (Randy) Rospert, Kevin (Beth) Ackerman, Tina (Dan) Frederick, Mike (Cris) Ackerman all of Milan; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Kirby; her loving companion, Kenny Woolever; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Ackerman in 1983; three siblings, Marjorie Ryan, Ted, and David Riley.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m., at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1 S. Main St., Milan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 130 S. Main St., Milan. Father Anthony Recker will be officiating. Burial will follow in Milan cemetery.
