Born in Elgin, on Nov. 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Monroe and Daphne Smith Sanders.
He was raised in Ridgeway, IL., graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1954, attended Danville Junior College and received a degree in heating and cooling at Ivy Tech. He lived in Attica and then for several years in Williamsport; he moved to Lafayette in 1993.
He was married on Sept. 4, 1970, to Virginia Sue Raplee in Attica. She survives.
Mr. Sanders was a quality control supervisor for C&D Battery in Attica for 25 years; worked at Rosewalk Commons in Lafayette, retiring in 1998; and worked for Hertz Car Rental in Lafayette until his illness.
He was a former member of Eagles Lodge 2596 of Attica and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of the late Dale Jarrett.
An Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Koweba McKinney of Lafayette, Peggy Anderson (husband: Michael) of Lake City, Fla., Vicky Fulk (husband: John) of Olney; two sisters, Susan Oakley (husband: Bill) of Mellott, Claudia King (husband: Richard) of Cumming, Ga.; and a brother, Donald Sanders (wife: Cathy) of Marion, IL. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Rachel McKinney, Rhianna McKinney, Tia Sanders, Chandler Sanders, Tabitha Schrock and Jenny Seiler; 3 greatgrandchildren, Wyatt, Brielle and Carly Seiler; a special daughter-in-law, Dedria Embry (husband: Gary) of Tell City, and a brother-in-law, Cecil Raplee (wife: Nancy) of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Earl and David Monroe Sanders, and a brother, William David Sanders.
