Services were Sept. 4 in Goodrich First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Frazier, Tom Price and Don Willis officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, directed by Cochran Funeral Home.
Rev. Neely was born in Winters and graduated from Winters High School, and McMurry College in Abilene in 1935. He married Maxine Perry in 1936 in Abilene. He became a Methodist minister in 1936 and was a pastor for 12 years in the Huckaby and Foreston circuits, as well as in Bosqueville-Elmot and Hewitt. He then pastored churches in Lometa, Big Lake, Taft, Lockhart, Bronte, Corpus Christi, Pleasanton and Burnet for 26 years until retiring in 1974. He was a longtime dean of men at Mount Wesley, a conference camp in Kerrville. He formerly lived in Hughes Springs and was an associate minister at Texarkana First United Methodist Church for 10 years. He moved to Livingston in 1985 and pastored Goodrich First UMC for five years until leaving the pulpit due to ill health. He was a former school teacher and coach in Hewitt and Lometa, and was active in the Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary clubs.
Survivors include his wife, of Livingston; one son, Stanley C. Neely of Norman, Okla.; one daughter, Linda Neely Walker of Livingston; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
