Mrs. Mathews was born Feb. 25, 1912, in Waynesboro, Miss. She moved to the Greenville area in 1928 and resided there until 2001.
She was married to J.H. "Hamp" Mathews in 1935. She was a member of the Greenville Garden Club and First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hamilton Mathews Sr., and a son, James Hamilton Mathews Jr.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandra Mathews Files and her husband, Joseph G. Files of Oak Ridge, La.; two grandsons, Dr. Christopher H. Mathews and his wife, Jennifer, of Jackson and Capt. Stephen G. Mathews and his wife, Julie, of Meridian; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jake and Lauren Mathews.
