Mr. Albert Budai, 78, of Ennis, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. He was born Jan. 15, 1926 and adopted at St. Paul Hospital by Steve and Lizzie Budai at the age of 18 months. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII veteran. During his service, he was assigned to the USS Benham, which was sunk off the Guadalcanal shortly after the first invasion at Pearl Harbor. He was a survivor of USS Helena after she was sunk and taken to her watery grave. He served four years and was discharged in 1946. On March 7, 1947 he was married to Ruby Marie St. Martin of LaPlace, LA. Mr. Budai was self-employed in the wholesale gas business and custom farm work. Later, he owned and operated Budai's at Bardwell. He served as a member of the EISD Board of trustees and was a volunteer fireman of the Bardwell Fire Dept. He was an avid lifetime Ennis Lions' football fan. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, Clayton Budai and his wife, Pat of Ennis, Steve Budai of Mesquite; four daughters and their husbands, Trudy and John Rankin, Linda and Leslie Lott, Debbie and Gary Monroe and Karen Budai all of Ennis; grandchildren, David and Aaron Wolfe, Russell and Chad Caldwell, Tracy Cryer, Max and Jakee Monroe and Megan Budai; great grandchildren, D.J., Stephan, Hannah, BJ, Reese and Gavin. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Agnes Chmelar and Mickey Pigg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Keever Chapel with Larry Poarch officiating. Entombment will be in St. Josephs Mausoleum under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
