George C. Linder died of natural causes Sunday Nov. 26, 2000, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
George Carl Linder was born Sept. 15, 1917, on a farm northwest of Reinbeck. He was the son of Marcus and Lena Brandt Linder. He grew up in the area of his birth and attended Reinbeck Schools.
On Feb. 10, 1941, he entered the United States Army and served in the African Theater during World War II. He recieved the Bronze Star and Silver Star medals and was honorably discharged Aug. 11, 1945.
On Sept. 27, 1952 he was united in marriage to Marion J. Rasmussen at Cresco, IA. The couple made their home in Reinbeck, where George was employed with the city of Reinbeck as street commissioner and later worked in the shelling department at Pioneer Seed Corn Company for 18 years retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ of Reinbeck; the American Legion Action Post #242; and the Izaak Walton League of Reinbeck.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion on Nov. 20, 1978; two sisters, Francis Witt and Victoria Wood; three brothers, LeRoy, Elmer and Fritz Linder and a brother and sister in infancy.
George is survived by two brothers, Clarence "Augie" Linder and Lester Linder, both of Reinbeck as well as nieces and nephews.
Hand Funeral Home-Reinbeck was in charge of arrangements.
